Father Charles D. Burns, SVD Pre-Preschool Program (PPS)
PJC offers a drop-in parent and child program for children 3 months to 4 years of age every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:00am-12:00pm. The program is play-based for children with their parent/guardian, in an environment where parents and children learn and grow together every day. Parents get involved with their children’s education. Children develop cognitive, social, emotional, fine and gross motor skills, and social skills through rich child-centered, play-based activities. Parents learn about and observe their child’s development in a supportive community of other West Oakland families with young children. Parents bond with their children through play, enhance their understanding of child development, and have access to critical tools and resources for their families.

Language: Decrease the word gap by developing oral language and vocabulary skills.

Pre Literacy: Phonemic awareness and alphabet knowledge.

Pre-Math: Numbers, shapes, comparisons, grouping, order, counting, sense of time, and chess.

The presents were provided by Peggy Williams of Pacifica, her daughter, Alison, and son-in-law Cornelius Johnson, and Tommie Lindsay. Peggy, a long time friend of Dr. Burns, has been involved for 12 years. Alison and Cornelius also helped. Tommie Lindsay, a long time West Oakland resident found our website about 6 years ago, called Dr. Burns and said he wanted to help the community and has done so for over 6 years. Everyone had a great time at the Christmas Party, including Santa.
