COVID-19 Updates

 

Like everyone, we continue to monitor the developments of COVID-19, and we continue to explore ways in which to support our West Oakland community members during these challenging times. Although we have suspended all in-person activities, and PJC staff are working remotely, we continue to provide the following services:

Our West Oakland Food Pantry (WOFP) is open and we have expanded our distribution days and times to Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9am-2:00pm. We deliver food boxes to the homeless encampments on Tuesdays and Thursdays, have a community-wide distribution on the 4th Saturday, and provide limited delivery to West Oakland seniors. Please pass the word to your participants, clients, staff, family, and friends. This is for everyone. Please see the flyer on the right for more information. We have canned food, produce, bread, chickens, pork hamburger patties, eggs, cheese, and more. We also distributed free freshly prepared meals provided by Kaiser Permanente, World Central Kitchen (WCK), and Replate. And, we provide diapers, baby wipes, and PPE to families through a partnership with Lincoln.

Each week, we serve over 1,200 individuals, and over 500 in homeless encampments. In the first three months of 2020, our food pantry distributed 2,586,806 pounds of food. And each week, thanks to our partners, Kaiser, Replate, WCK, and our newest partner, Panera, we distribute approximately 1500 prepared meals per week. Thank you to our generous sponsors!

Our Northern California Breathmobile staff in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties are following up with all our families to provide wellness calls, tele-assessments, medication (as needed), and follow-ups to children with asthma ages 3-18 and their families. To date, we have made over 400 wellness calls, provided prescription refills, and Tele-health doctor consultations. If your child has an asthma emergency, please take your child to the nearest emergency room. Our Father Charles D. Burns Pre Preschool Program for families of children ages 3 months-4 years is providing online and tele-groups and child development activities for our families on Zoom.
