West Oakland Asthma Coalition (WOAC)History of West Oakland Asthma Coalition
WOAC was established in 2001 by area organizations. Staff includeded a registered nurse who is a certified asthma educator, a Respiratory Therapist who is an experienced educator at Children’s Hospital, an Asthma Coordinator with professional experience in insurance issues who has well-established community contacts and a part time Spanish speaking outreach worker. In an effort to expand our mission to treat asthma, we started the Northern California Breathmobile®in 2008. We are now diagnosing and treating children who suffer from asthma in Oakland USD, San Leandro USD, Emeryville USD, and West Contra Costa USD. Asthma Education UpdateThe BreathmobileŽ will soon start visiting schools in the San Francisco Unified School District, starting in the area of Bayview Hunters Point. We are also expanding within the Oakland Unified School District. |
