Another Road to Safety (ARS)
Another Road to Safety (ARS) is an innovative effort between Alameda County Social Services Agency, First 5/Every Child Counts, and three (3) neighborhood collaboratives.
The program serves low to moderate risk families who are diverted from Childrens Protective Services (CPS) to a community based, intensive family support service delivery program. Family-focused, strength-based services will be provided by local community based organizations.

The West Oakland Food Pantry
To fill the increasing gap in food security, Prescott-Joseph Center established the West Oakland Food Pantry. To better serve West Oaklands approximately 24,000 residents who live below the federal poverty line, each month PJCCE will give support to families who are in need of emergency food and other essential supplies.

PLACE at Prescott School
Preparatory Literary Academy of Cultural Excellence (P.L.A.C.E.)
(formerly Prescott Elementary School)
PLACE will build upon our two successful family support programs at McClymonds Educational Complex and with Another Road to Safety, a partnership with Alameda County Social Services Agency (CPS). We will replicate the intervention strategy we employ in helping our current families and extend it to serve an additional 20 students and families who seek and/or have need of our services.
With assistance from the PLACE teachers and staff, we will identify students who may have problems at home that are manifest in their classroom behavior and academic work. Like our ARS and McClymonds programs, our focus will be on providing immediate crisis intervention and referrals to longer-term support services, thus assisting families to create a more healthy and stable home environment.

Summer 2007 Summer Youth Enrichment Program
This past summer, 78 neighborhood children participated in a 6-week summer activities program co-sponsored by PJCCE and St. Patrick Church. The activities included indoor soccer, basketball and a theatre arts camp. Daily breakfast snacks and lunches were provided.
A former McClymonds High basketball player now in college and 3 returning players on MACKs boys and girls teams were assistant basketball coaches.
Ayodele Nzinga, PJCCEs resident Theatre Director conducted the theatre camp. Awards for the sports and theater camps were given out at an end of camp Bar-B-Que celebration for participants and parents in August.
The camp will be conducted again in summer 2008 thanks to a grant from Oaklands CDBG program.
